The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed on June 26 every year since 1989 with an aim to raise awareness about drug abuse and illegal drug trade. The day showcases the issue of illicit drugs present in the society and how individuals, communities and various organisations all over the world can come together to sweep it out. The theme for the year 2019 is 'Health for Justice. Justice for Health'. According to the UN, the theme "emphasises on integrated nature of the rights- and health-based approaches, which are both highlighted in this Ministerial Declaration".
