IPCC Report Issues 'Code Red For Humanity' Warning On Climate Change, Says Earth To Become Warmer By 1.5° By 2050

Climate on the earth is getting so hot that temperatures in about a decade will probably blow past a level of warming that world leaders have sought to prevent, as per the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report released on August 9, 2021. The IPCC "report is a code red for humanity", UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said. The report landed just 90 days before a key climate summit desperate to keep 1.5 C in play. With only 1.1 C of warming so far, unprecedented weather disasters bulked up by climate change has swept the world this summer, from rainstorms turning China's city streets into rivers, to asphalt-melting heatwaves in Canada to wildfires sweeping Greece. Climate activist Greta Thunberg tweeted, “The new IPCC report contains no real surprises.” The report does offer a sliver of hope for keeping the 1.5C goal alive. IPPC projected the increase in global surface temperature for five emissions scenarios, ranging from wildly optimistic to outright reckless & identifies best estimates for 20-year periods with mid-points of 2030, 2050 & 2090.
