Kolkata Sees Severe Flooding As City Records Highest Single-Day Rainfall In September In 14 Years

Several areas of Kolkata were inundated in knee-deep water as West Bengal’s capital received the highest single-day rainfall in September in 14 years. As per Indian Meteorological Department, Kolkata recorded 142mm of rain in a span of 24 hours till 8.30am on Monday, September 20. The city received over 100mm in just six-hours from 1am to 7am. The intense rainfall led to severe water-logging in areas such as Ballygunge, Golf Green, Topsia, Lake Gardens. Light to moderate rainfall with one or two spells of heavy rainfall and thundershowers, have been predicted for Tuesday.
