Lok Sabha Session: Bill Introduced To Give More Power To Delhi LG, Arvind Kejriwal Calls It Unconstitutional

INDIA Team Latestly|

Centre on March 15Ā introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha seekingĀ to give more powers to the lieutenant governorĀ in Delhi. It specified thatĀ any decision of the state cabinet or government would need his ā€œopinionā€ before implementation.Ā Condemnation of the move by theĀ Kejriwal government was swift with the CM himself calling it ā€œunconstitutional and undemocraticā€. Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill 2021 says the LG can specify any matter for which the elected government will need to get his 'opinion' & that the expression, 'Government', referred to in any law to be made by the assembly shall mean the LG. Slamming the move, Kejriwal tweeted, ā€œThis is against 4.7.18 Constitution Bench judgement which said that files will not be sent to LG, elected govt will take all decisions and send copy of decision to LGā€.
