On April 16, 11 people died due to heat stroke during the Maharashtra Bhushan Awards ceremony in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased. The expenses of the treatment of the injured will be borne by the state government. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the hospital. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his son Aditya Thackeray and NCP leader Ajit Pawar also visited the hospital. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also attended the event.
