Mumbai Police Busts Fake BARC TRP Ratings Racket; Alleges Republic TV’s Role; Channel To File Criminal Defamation Case Against Mumbai Police Commissioner, Says Arnab Goswami; Know What Is TRP? How Is It Measured?

On October 8, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh said that the Crime Intelligence Unit of the Crime Branch has busted a TRP fraud racket. Singh said two TV channel heads have been arrested and investigation against Republic TV is underway for its suspicious link in the TRP fraud. Owners of Marathi channels Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema have been arrested & arrests were made under sections 409 and 420 of IPC. The Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has submitted that Republic TV is a suspect in TRP manipulation, the Mumbai Police Commissioner said. Promoters and other employees of Republic TV will be summoned and questioned, Commissioner Param Bir Singh said. Arnab Goswami, the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, issued a strongly worded statement to refute the allegations levelled against the channel by the Mumbai police. The news anchor further said that his channel would be filing a criminal defamation suit against Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh over the allegations made against Republic TV.
