Petrol and diesel prices have been raised again across the four metros on Monday, May 31. The prices have been increased for the 16th time since May 4.Ā Fuel prices have witnessed sporadic rise in the last few days. In the nationalĀ capital, petrol prices were raisedĀ by 29 paiseĀ fromĀ Rs 93.94Ā per litre toĀ Rs 94.23 and diesel prices were increased by 26 paiseĀ fromĀ RsĀ 84.89Ā per litre toĀ RsĀ 85.15 per litre, according to Indian Oil Corporation.Ā The hike has pushed petrol and diesel prices to record-high levels across the country. State-run oil refiners had hiked petrol and diesel prices on May 4, endingĀ an 18-day hiatus in rate revisionĀ observed during the assembly elections held in states such as Tamil Nadu andĀ West Bengal among others. Petrol had crossed theĀ Rs 100 mark in Mumbai on May 29 andĀ the revised priceĀ in the financial capital stands atĀ RsĀ 100.47 per litre. Diesel is retailedĀ atĀ Rs 92.45Ā per litre in Mumbai. Moreover, the petrol rates had already crossed theĀ Rs 100-mark in several cities of Madhya Pradesh andĀ Rajasthan. Fuel rates vary across the states in the country due to value-added tax or VAT.
