BJP & its allies are likely to retain Assam & gain only the Union Territory of Puducherry, show an aggregate of opinion polls released on March 24 evening. These states are up for the next round of elections along with four key states. Elections begin on March 27. Only one opinion poll was conducted in Puducherry, which predicts that the BJP will emerge as the victor with 21 of the 30 assembly seats. Only one opinion poll, the C-Voter, has predicted a victory for Trinamool Congress, though with a much-reduced margin of 160 seats. People's Pulse has predicted an outright victory for the BJP with 183 seats. An aggregate of two opinion polls predicts a change of guard in Tamil Nadu, currently ruled by the AIADMK, which has retained its alliance with the BJP for this round of elections. Only one opinion poll was conducted in Kerala. C-Voter has predicted that the ruling Left Democratic Front will stay in power with 77 of the state's 140 seats.
