The Supreme Court of India heard matters relating to various issues impacting migrant workers across India after the Central government announced a nation-wide lockdown on March 24. The hearing came after the Apex Court had taken suo moto cognizance of the issue on May 26 and said it would hear the matter on May 28. The top court had earlier issued notices to the Centre and the state governments, saying there have been “inadequacies and certain lapses” on their part in dealing with the migrant workers’ situation.
