A Danish police officer and two other individuals, including a suspected gunman, suffered serious injuries on Friday afternoon following a violent gunfight in northern Denmark. The incident unfolded in Nørresundby, a town located in the North Jutland region just north of Aalborg. According to North Jutland police spokesperson Søren Pejtersen, all three individuals sustained serious injuries during the exchange.

Local emergency services initially responded to a report of a fire in an industrial area of Nørresundby at approximately 1:39 p.m. local time. Danish national broadcaster DR reported that when officers arrived at the scene, they were immediately met with gunfire.

Responding units returned fire, leading to a localized gun battle. Photos and video footage captured from the perimeter showed thick plumes of black smoke rising from the industrial site as heavily armed law enforcement blocked off the surrounding streets. Authorities confirmed that the active threat had concluded by 3:00 p.m.. However, a major security cordon remained in place as forensic investigators and tactical teams worked to secure the scene.

Several key details regarding the sequence of events remain unconfirmed. Investigators have not yet disclosed whether the wounded officer was shot directly by the suspect or sustained injuries from friendly fire. Additionally, the identity and involvement of the third injured individual have not been released to the public.

Violent crime involving firearms remains relatively rare in Denmark, a country known for maintaining strict gun control laws and low rates of gun violence compared to international averages. Regional authorities have stated that a comprehensive investigation into the origin of the fire and the subsequent shooting is actively ongoing.
