Pakistani authorities have launched a search and rescue operation after K2 Airways Cargo flight KTA1732, a Boeing 737 freighter registered as AP-BOI, failed to arrive in Karachi after departing Sharjah. The aircraft, carrying five crew members, lost contact with air traffic control on Tuesday night after reporting a navigational system issue. Preliminary flight tracking data indicate a rapid loss of altitude before the aircraft disappeared from radar.

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said the cargo flight was en route from Sharjah to Karachi when it encountered a navigational system problem. Air traffic controllers guided the aircraft after the issue was reported, but communication and radar contact were lost approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi. Aircraft lost contact after reporting navigational issue

According to the Pakistan Airports Authority, the K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo flight was on the route from Sharjah to Karachi at 9:18pm PST when it reported a navigational system issue and was promptly guided by the Karachi Area Control Centre.

In a post on X, the PAA said: “However, at time 2121 PST, aircraft was observed on radar rapidly descending and with rapid heading change, subsequently radar contact and communication was lost approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi,” the PAA said. NetJets Private Jet N523QS From Mexico Crashes While Approaching Laredo International Airport in Texas; Video Surfaces.

The authority confirmed that the aircraft had five crew members on board and that search teams were immediately deployed after contact was lost.

Flight data indicates rapid altitude changes

According to Flightradar24, preliminary ADS-B data showed that the aircraft first lost altitude, then climbed again, before suddenly losing altitude for a second time.

The last signal from the aircraft was received at 16:21 UTC. At that point, it was flying at 1,100 feet above mean sea level (AMSL) and was descending at a reported rate of 22,400 feet per minute. Flightradar24 said that preliminary ADS-B data “indicate a possible crash.”

The flight tracking service also noted that shortly after takeoff, aircraft operating in the region experienced GNSS interference, resulting in degraded tracking data near Sharjah and a temporary transition to multilateration (MLAT) tracking. Once the aircraft exited the affected area, ADS-B data transmission resumed.

Aircraft history

The aircraft involved, registered as AP-BOI, is a Boeing 737-4M0(BDSF) that entered service with K2 Airways in 2024.

According to Flightradar24: “It began flying as a passenger aircraft, originally with Aeroflot in 1999, then with Garuda Indonesia in 2004. In 2012, the aircraft was converted to a freighter and operated by TNT Airways, then ASL Airlines."

Search and rescue operation underway

Search efforts are continuing off the coast of Karachi.

According to The Express Tribune, the Pakistan Navy deployed warship PNS Zulfiqar to assist in the operation. A Pakistan Air Force SAAB aircraft and a Pakistan Navy ATR aircraft have also joined the search, while the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation's commercial vessel Lahore has been dispatched to support rescue efforts.

Authorities have not confirmed the aircraft's location or the condition of those on board. The search operation remains ongoing.
