Major Japanese publisher Shueisha has launched "MANGA MILLION", a new digital platform that provides readers worldwide with free access to roughly 400 manga titles across one million pages. Released to commemorate the company's centenary, the service makes content available in over 100 languages without requiring user registration.
Global Scale and Multilingual Access
The platform supports an extensive range of languages, including English, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, Turkish, Tagalog, Korean, and Polish. At launch, the catalogue features globally acclaimed series such as "ONE PIECE," "Naruto," "Bleach," "Demon Slayer," and "Jujutsu Kaisen," alongside anime-adapted hits like "Kingdom," "[Oshi No Ko]," "SPY×FAMILY," and "Chainsaw Man". Nearly 300 titles are receiving translations for the first time, with 50 titles getting multilingual rollouts.
Company Vision and Leadership Remarks
Developed as a company-wide initiative spanning all of Shueisha's divisions, the project brings together shonen, shojo, seinen, and other genres. International licensing partners supported the translation effort, marking it as one of the largest undertakings in the publisher's history. “One of a publisher's most important responsibilities is to connect creative talent with the public,” said Hideaki Hayashi, President and Representative Director of Shueisha.
“Japanese manga has flourished through the passionate artistry of countless manga creators and the unwavering support of readers, growing into a cultural phenomenon embraced across borders around the world," Hayashi added. "MANGA MILLION was made possible through the incredible cooperation of these creators, and as we mark Shueisha's 100th anniversary, we hope it will create new connections with readers worldwide, provide opportunities to experience the richness and diversity of manga culture, and inspire future generations of manga creators."
Availability and Platform Details
The project originated from an internal concept to address language barriers preventing international fans from accessing manga. “The project began with a simple question: what if we marked Shueisha's 100th anniversary by translating one million pages of manga into 100 languages?" noted Shuhei Hosono, Editor-in-Chief of MANGA Plus by Shueisha. "As we developed the concept, we also saw it as a way to address the language barriers that still prevent many readers around the world from accessing manga. We hope that MANGA MILLION, an unprecedented translation initiative spanning 100 languages and one million pages, will spark new discoveries and connections between readers and Japanese manga", reported Anime News Network.
