Mumbai, Dec 21 (PTI) Fishermen at Harnai Bandar in Maharashtra's coastal Konkan region netted a Malabar grouper fish weighing around 90 kg Friday, a forest department official said.
N Vasudevan, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, told PTI that while this species of fish is commonly found, the size of the catch was unusual.
"The fish is considered a delicacy," he said, adding that it is not protected under the law.
Giant grouper, a related species, is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act. A giant grouper fish can weigh upto 450 kg, he said.
