Guj Fisherman Who Died in Pak Jail Cremated in Native Village

A Gujarat fishermen who died early last month in a Pakistan jail was Friday cremated in his native Paldi village in the state's Gir Somnath district, about 400 kilometres from here, an official said.

Vadodara, Apr 19 (PTI) A Gujarat fishermen who died early last month in a Pakistan jail was Friday cremated in his native Paldi village in the state's Gir Somnath district, about 400 kilometres from here, an official said.

Bhikha Bhagwan Bamaniya, who was apprehended by Pakistan maritime forces on November 15, 2017 for allegedly straying into the neighbouring country's territorial waters, died in a jail there on March 4 this year.

"His body was flown from Karachi to Ahmedabad via Dubai today and then taken by road to Paldi in Una tehsil for cremation," said Kanjibhai Masani, an official of the state's forest department.

A huge crowd of villagers attended the cremation after the body was brought here following a 12-hour road journey from Ahmedabad, Paldi village head Kamlesh Solanki told PTI.

Masani said post mortem conducted in a Pakistan hospital stated the cause of death as heart attack.
