Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], June 18 (ANI): The Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Capital Itanagar has announced the immediate closure of the road from Nirjuli to Banderdewa due to severe damage caused by continuous rainfall in the Karsingsa area.

A portion of the road has slid down, and a culvert has been washed away, rendering the route impassable.

After a thorough site inspection by the District Administration, Police, and the Highway Department, it has been decided to close the affected road segment and divert all traffic via Gumto.

This closure will remain in effect until the culvert and road are fully restored by the Highway Department.

Deputy Commissioner Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, has instructed the deployment of police personnel to manage the traffic diversion.

The Executive Engineer of the PWD, Naharlagun Highway Division, Nirjuli, is also directed to place banners at key entry points to inform commuters of the road closure and the new route.

Drivers are urged to adhere to the diversion through Gumto to ensure safety an d smooth traffic flow during the repair work.

Several landslide incidents have been reported in many places in Arunachal Pradesh following heavy rainfall.

Light to moderate rain occurred over MOST places of Arunachal Pradesh during last 24 hrs, according to the India Meteorological department.

During the past 24 hours, daytime temperatures noticeably dropped in Arunachal Pradesh, falling below average. Nighttime temperatures, however, remained stable and were typical for this time of year in the region, said IMD (ANI)
