Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 28 (ANI): The Jammu Zone Police has established a 24x7 election helpline number, "8899334482," at the PCR Jammu to address and mitigate the potential threat posed by objectionable messages circulated through various social media platforms ahead of the assembly polls in the Union Territory.

In line with directives from the Election Commission, this helpline will play a crucial role in combating the spread of messages that violate election laws and the Model Code of Conduct.

Citizens who receive objectionable messages that pose a threat to the law and order of the region are encouraged to forward the content, along with the sender's details, to the election helpline number.

Upon receiving such complaints, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police of Jammu Zone will promptly initiate enquiries to trace the original senders, and appropriate legal action will be taken under relevant provisions of the law as per the instructions and directions issued by the Election Commission.

These measures are designed to curb the spread of misinformation and sustain the integrity of the electoral process. The J&K Police Jammu Zone urges all citizens to cooperate in this effort by on-time reporting any such instances of objectionable messages related to the election.

Meanwhile, according to the seat-sharing pact, the National Conference (NC) will contest 51 of 90 seats and Congress 32 for the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. The two parties will also have a "friendly contest" on five seats. The two parties have left one seat each for the CPI (M) and Panthers Party.

The National Conference announced its list of 18 candidates, while the Congress announced its first list of nine candidates.

The BJP on Monday also released its first list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir elections. The party subsequently declared its candidate from the Konkernag seat, also naming a total of 16 candidates. The list features candidates from both the Jammu and Kashmir regions.

Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 4.

Voting will be held for 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Election Commission, the Union Territory has 88.06 lakh electors. (ANI)
