Ranchi, Jun 4 (PTI) The BJP was leading in eight Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand, with its ally AJSU Party leading in one, suggesting a potential loss of at least three seats for the saffron party in the state. In the 2019 polls, the BJP had won 11 seats, and its ally AJSU Party had secured one.

According to the current trends, the Congress was leading in two seats, and the JMM in three in the state.

Union Minister and sitting MP Arjun Munda was trailing Congress's Kalicharan Munda in Khunti Lok Sabha seat by approximately 1.39 lakh votes, indicating a clear defeat.

In Singhbhum, JMM's Joba Manjhi was ahead by 1.46 lakh votes over her nearest rival Geeta Kora of the BJP.

Kora, wife of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, had joined the BJP just before the Lok Sabha polls.

She conceded her defeat, although the Election Commission is yet to announce the official results.

"I accept my defeat. But, I will be working for the people of the constituency," Kora said. She alleged that the entire state machinery conspired against her, endangering her life during the campaign.

Former DGP and sitting BJP MP VD Ram was leading by 2.69 lakh votes over his nearest rival Mamta Bhuiyan of the RJD in Palamu.

In Dumka, BJP's Sita Soren, initially ahead of JMM's Nalin Soren, is now trailing by 13,056 votes in a tight contest.

Sita, a three-time JMM legislator, joined the BJP just before the Lok Sabha polls.

Sitting BJP MP Nishikant Dubey was leading by 1.10 lakh votes over his nearest rival Pradeep Yadav of the Congress in Godda.

BJP's Bidyut Baran Mahto was leading by 2.26 lakh votes in Jamshedpur over JMM's Samir Kumar Mohanty.

Union Minister Annapurna Devi was leading by 1.93 lakh votes in Koderma over CPI (ML) Liberation's Vinod Kumar Singh.

BJP's Manish Jaiswal was leading from the Hazaribag seat over Congress's JP Patel by 2.05 lakh votes.

JMM's Vijay Hansdak was leading by 98,206 votes over BJP's Tala Marandi in the Rajmahal (ST) seat.

AJSU Party's CP Chaudhary was leading by 75,857 votes in Giridih over his nearest rival Mathura Mahto of the JMM.

In Giridih, Jharkhand Bhasa Khatiyan Sangarsh Samiti (JBKSS) supporters clashed with AJSU Party supporters during the eighth round of counting, alleging irregularities.

Police used light lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the supporters, according to an official.

In Lohardaga, Congress's Sukhdeo Bhagat was leading by 91,020 votes over his nearest rival Samir Oraon of the BJP.

In Dhanbad, BJP's Dulu Mahto was leading by 1.62 lakh votes over Congress's Anupama Singh.

BJP's Sanjay Seth was leading by a margin of 95,038 votes over Congress's Yashaswini Sahay in Ranchi.

Kalicharan Singh of the BJP was leading by a margin of 1.16 lakh votes over Congress's KN Tripathi in the Chatra Lok Sabha seat.

The counting of votes began at 8 AM for 14 Lok Sabha seats and one assembly by-election in Jharkhand amid heavy security arrangements, with a total of 244 candidates in the fray.

"Chatra and Koderma will have the maximum number of rounds at 27 each, while Khunti will have the minimum at 16. There will be 24 rounds of counting in the Gandey assembly by-election," Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Ravi Kumar said.

Altogether, nine sitting MPs and 12 MLAs are contesting the parliamentary polls.

In Chaibasa, a poll staffer fell unconscious due to the heat and was rushed to a hospital.

Overall, a 66.19 per cent turnout was recorded in the four phases of voting in Jharkhand from May 13 to June 1. Of the 14 Lok Sabha seats, the BJP had won 11 constituencies, while AJSU Party, Congress, and JMM had won one seat each in the 2019 polls.
