New Delhi, Dec 28 (PTI) A state-of-the-art nursery at the historic Roshanara Bagh was on Wednesday inaugurated by Lt Governor V K Saxena, who emphasised the need to replicate such nurseries in other part of the city to make Delhi greener and more beautiful.

On his first visit to Roshanara Bagh on June 18, Saxena had directed officials to develop a world-class nursery on a 8.5-acre plot, civic officials said.

He said that for the G20 Summit next year, beautification projects are required for the city in order to present a good picture of the national capital in front of the world.

The nursery would be helpful to supply saplings for the maintenance of parks, garden and landscaping for beautification works.

The Lt Governor emphasised the need to replicate "such kind of nurseries in other part of the city so as to make Delhi greener and beautiful".

Roshanara Bagh is a Mughal-era garden located in north Delhi. It also has an old 'baradari' (pavilion).

After inaugurating the nursery, the Lt Governor went on a round of the complex. He was shown a specially-crafted lightweight pots made with cow dung and dry grass, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said in a statement. He also announced a financial incentive for the workers.

Lok Sabha MP and former Union minister Harsh Vardhan, Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, MCD's Special Officer Ashwani Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti were also present on the occasion.

Roshanara Bagh nursery's total capacity is 1,50,000 plants, it said.

Nineteen kind of plants, including tulsi, jamun and ajwain, will be propagated in the nursery.
