Thane, Jan 18 (PTI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested an additional executive engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 for giving "satisfactory" remarks to a firm engaged for meter reading and other works, the ACB said on Wednesday.

The firm had conducted the work of meter reading, printing and distribution of bills and forwarded its documents to the executive engineer's office for payment.

The 47-year-old accused, posted at the MSEDCL's Vashi sub-division office in Navi Mumbai town, had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from a person who worked with that firm for making "satisfactory” remarks on its bills submitted for payment, the ACB said in a release.

Later, he accused settled the deal at Rs 15,000, it said.

The firm employee gave a written complaint to the ACB, which laid a trap on Tuesday and arrested the engineer while accepting the sum of Rs 15,000 from the complainant, the release said.

A case was registered against the accused under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, it said.
