EPFO 3.0 Unlocks Instant UPI Access to EPF Funds for 8 Crore Members, All You Need To Know
EPFO 3.0 enables EPF withdrawal via UPI in seconds, replacing the 7-10 day process. Know withdrawal limits, eligibility, and how the new system works.
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to allow its 8 crore members to withdraw eligible portions of their Provident Fund directly via Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that testing of the UPI payment gateway has been completed and the service will be rolled out soon. The withdrawn amount will be directly transferred into the member's linked bank account.
EPFO 3.0: From Weeks to Seconds
The EPFO 3.0 framework cuts withdrawal times from weeks to seconds by removing the requirement for manual employer approvals, creating a fully paperless and frictionless claims process. The current system takes 7 to 10 days to process withdrawals, with amounts over INR 1 lakh triggering manual verification and document mismatches causing delays or rejections. The new system eliminates these pain points entirely. EPFO 3.0 Launch: How Much PF Can You Withdraw Through UPI?
How EPFO UPI Withdrawal Will Work
Members can check their eligible withdrawal amount on the UMANG app and transfer it directly to their linked bank account. The funds can then be accessed via UPI transfer or at a UPI-enabled ATM. A WhatsApp chatbot integration is also being added, allowing members to check balance and withdrawal eligibility by simply sending a message.
Withdrawal Limits and Balance Segregation
A minimum of 25 per cent of the total PF balance will always remain locked to preserve retirement savings. Members can withdraw between 50 per cent and 75 per cent of their balance via UPI or ATM. The UMANG app will clearly display the eligible balance for withdrawal, keeping the locked portion separate. For purposes such as illness, education, marriage, and housing, members can access their EPF money within three days.
Who Is Eligible for EPFO UPI Withdrawal?
To use the facility, members must meet the following conditions:
- Active Universal Account Number (UAN)
- Aadhaar and PAN linked and verified with UAN
- Name and date of birth matching exactly across PF records and Aadhaar
Candidates are advised to regularly check the EPFO official portal and UMANG app for updates on the UPI withdrawal rollout date.
