Veteran actor Rajesh Sharma has been admitted to Manipal Hospital in Dhakuria, Kolkata, after developing a severe infection following a suspected insect bite. The incident reportedly occurred at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad while the actor was shooting for an upcoming project starring Prabhas.

Sequence of Events

According to a statement issued by actor Sudipa Chatterjee on behalf of Sharma’s family, the incident took place after the day’s filming had concluded. While interacting with local technicians in an area surrounded by dense vegetation, the actor felt what he believed to be an insect bite. Sushant Singh Rajput Demise: Rajesh Sharma Recalls Working with the Late Actor in MS Dhoni Biopic (Read Deets).

As the bite initially appeared minor, Sharma did not seek immediate medical attention. However, his condition worsened approximately six hours later, with the actor experiencing intense pain in his right leg. Despite the onset of symptoms, Sharma proceeded to board a flight to Kolkata. During the journey, he developed a high fever and became increasingly restless, leading to his admission to the hospital the following day.

Medical Condition and Observation

More than 24 hours after his admission, the actor continues to suffer from high fever, breathlessness, and a rapidly progressing infection in his right leg. The infection has reportedly spread from his toes to his knee, with large blisters forming over the affected area. "At this stage, it is too early to make any definite assessment. Mr Sharma remains under close observation and is not yet out of danger," said Dr Avijit Bhattacharya, who is overseeing his treatment. Medical professionals are monitoring the actor round-the-clock due to the risk of secondary complications. Specifically, doctors are concerned about the potential formation of a blood clot which, if it were to travel to the lungs, could become life-threatening. Maniesh Paul’s Mother Urmil Paul Dies at 77; Actor’s Team Issues Statement.

While Rajesh Sharma was recently seen in films such as Bhooth Bangla and Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart, it remains unconfirmed which of the upcoming Prabhas-starrer productions he was working on at the time of the incident. Further updates regarding his health are expected following a detailed medical assessment.
