The Mumbai Police has issued a "Leave India" notice to Bollywood actor Imran Khan, directing him to depart the country by October 28, following his participation in a political demonstration in the city. The action was initiated against Khan - an American passport holder and nephew of superstar Aamir Khan - under Sections 29 and 7 of the Immigration Act, over allegations that he participated in political protests despite not being an Indian citizen.

Participation in Protests and Detention

The order follows Khan's participation in a demonstration on October 10 at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan, where protesters gathered to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, reports ANI. Imran Khan Detained in Mumbai During CJP Solidarity Protest at August Kranti Maidan.

The actor attended the demonstration alongside his partner, actor Lekha Washington, and his cousin, Zayne Marie Khan. All three were detained by police during the demonstration and subsequently released.

Legal Provisions and Statement from the Actor

According to authorities, action was taken because foreign nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders are subject to restrictions regarding participation in political activities within India. Addressing his presence at the demonstration, Khan stated that he had joined the gathering as a resident of the city rather than to advance specific political demands. Kirit Somaiya Flags Imran Khan’s Citizenship After Mumbai CJP Protest, Seeks Police Action.

“I don't have demands. I am here as a citizen, as a person who lives in this city. I am here to see why freedom of movement is being restricted. Why are people's voices being suppressed? That is why I am here," Khan said. Authorities confirmed that the "Leave India" notice setting the October 28 deadline has been officially served to the actor.
