The issue emerged shortly after Kattalan premiered in theatres. The unauthorised fan page published a post asserting that a deliberate smear campaign was underway against the action thriller. The page specifically pointed fingers at the promotional team behind the box office hit Drishyam 3, claiming they were orchestrating the negative feedback.

Moving quickly to address the escalating rumours, Varghese took to his official Instagram Stories to firmly deny any association with the claims or the account responsible for them. He emphasised that the Facebook page is completely unauthorised. "It has come to my attention that a fake Facebook page posting as my 'fan page' is circulating posts and spreading false information," Varghese wrote. "Please note that this page is completely unauthorized and has absolutely no affiliation with me or my actual fan community. They are intentionally spreading fake news to create unnecessary allegations and drama."
The actor concluded his statement by asking the public to remain vigilant, writing, "Do not believe, share, or engage with anything posted there. Thank you to everyone who brought this to my attention! Stay safe."
