New Delhi, Jun 27: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday supported the government's stand in dismissing the UN report on Human Rights in Kashmir, saying 'some of these reports are motivated'.

"I don't think it is necessary for us to speak on this (UN report). The Indian Army's human rights record is above board, and people of India, Army personnel and countries worldwide know the truth. We must not pay much heed to this, some of these reports are motivated," General Rawat said.

The UN report sought an international independent probe into human rights violations in Kashmir from July 2016 onwards - the time when Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in a gunfight with the security forces.

Wani's killing was followed by massive civilian protests in which 110 civilians were killed in clashes with the security and scores injured. The UN report has called the pellet shotguns as "the most dangerous weapon still in use by the security forces in Kashmir".

The government outright rejected the report, terming it "overtly prejudiced and seeks to build a false narrative". Following the release of the report, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it was misleading and mischievous.
