Bengaluru, January 29: Several parts of Bengaluru are set to experience scheduled power outages this weekend, Saturday, January 31, and Sunday, February 1. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) announced that the disruptions are necessary to facilitate essential maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and grid reliability works. Residents and businesses in the affected zones are advised to plan their day, as the outages are expected to last for several hours during the daytime.

The planned shutdowns are part of BESCOM's routine measures to strengthen the city's electricity network and prevent unplanned breakdowns during the upcoming summer months. While the maintenance work is spread across various subdivisions, most outages are scheduled between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. BESCOM officials noted that while they aim to restore power as quickly as possible, the exact duration may vary depending on the progress of the technical work at specific substations. Gold Rate Today, January 29, 2026: Check 22K & 24K Gold Prices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Other Cities.

Areas Affected on Saturday, January 31:

On Saturday, the power cuts will primarily impact residential and commercial pockets in East and North Bengaluru. Key areas under the maintenance scanner include parts of HRBR Layout, Kammanahalli, Kasturi Nagar, and Ramamurthy Nagar. Additionally, localities surrounding Banaswadi and certain blocks of HBR Layout may experience intermittent supply as engineers work on transformer upgrades and line stringing.

Areas Affected on Sunday, February 1:

Sunday’s schedule focuses on South and West Bengaluru, including major industrial and residential hubs. Residents in Rajajinagar (2nd and 6th Blocks), Vijayanagar, and parts of Kengeri should prepare for outages. Infrastructure projects related to "Jalasiri" water supply and the shifting of overhead cables to underground systems will also cause temporary shutdowns in Challakere and nearby rural clusters. Bengaluru Power Cut: Widespread Outages Expected This Week Due to Maintenance Work, Check Affected Areas and Timings.

Reason for the Outages

BESCOM has cited several technical reasons for this weekend's schedule, such as quarterly servicing of 66/11 kV substations to ensure safety, removal of tree branches near high-tension wires to prevent short circuits, moving utility poles for ongoing road widening and metro construction projects, and continuing the transition from overhead lines to underground cabling to reduce rain-related faults.

To minimise inconvenience, BESCOM has advised residents to ensure that mobile phones, laptops, and power banks are fully charged before 10:00 AM. Consumers are also encouraged to fill overhead tanks and storage units in advance to avoid water shortages during the outage. Additionally, residents should disconnect expensive electronic appliances to protect them from potential voltage fluctuations when power is restored. For real-time updates or to report local faults, citizens can contact the BESCOM helpline at 1912.
