Income Tax Return Filing Deadline
The deadline for filing the Income Tax Return (ITR) for salaried individuals and non-audit cases for the financial year ending March 31, 2026, is July 31, 2026.
Taxpayers filing ITR-1 or ITR-2, including salaried employees and individuals earning income from house property, capital gains or other non-business sources that do not require an audit, should complete the filing process before the due date to avoid penalties. TDS Deposit Deadline
Businesses and taxpayers with quarterly approval for Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) deposits under the Income Tax Act, 2025, must deposit TDS for the April-June quarter by July 7, 2026.
Indian Railways Introduces Higher Penalties

The minimum fine for travelling without a valid railway ticket will increase from INR 250 to INR 500. Male passengers travelling in women-reserved coaches may face penalties of up to INR 2,500. Authorities will also impose higher fines on passengers travelling using another person's ticket or travelling in sleeper coaches with only a general ticket.
In addition, stricter penalties will apply to offences such as unauthorised hawking, begging inside trains, creating public nuisance, abusive behaviour, public intoxication, trespassing on railway property and carrying dangerous goods improperly.
Aadhaar Update Becomes Free
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that Aadhaar holders can update certain demographic details free of cost from July 1 to December 31, 2026, if their email address is not already updated.
Eligible users can update details such as their name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number and email address without paying the earlier INR 75 fee.
LPG Cylinder Price Revision
State-run oil marketing companies are expected to revise the prices of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders on July 1, following the monthly review based on global crude oil prices and government policy decisions.
Consumers should also watch for possible revisions in CNG, PNG and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, which may influence household and travel expenses.
HDFC Bank Credit Card Rule Change
Beginning in July, HDFC Bank Regalia Gold credit card holders must spend at least INR 60,000 in the previous quarter to qualify for complimentary domestic airport lounge access in the following quarter.
Customers who fail to meet the spending requirement will no longer receive the lounge benefit.
Citi Credit Cards Complete Migration to Axis Bank
The migration of Citi credit cards to Axis Bank will be completed by July 15, 2026.
Existing customers will retain their current card number, PIN, expiry date and CVV. Billing cycles, due dates and statement generation schedules will also remain unchanged. Reward points will be migrated to Axis Bank's platform, while applicable interest charges will follow Axis Bank's policies after migration.
YES Bank Credit Card Lounge Access Rule
From July 1, YES Bank is increasing the quarterly spending requirement for complimentary domestic airport lounge access from INR 10,000 to INR 35,000.
The revised eligibility criteria will apply to several cards, including YES Marquee, YES Select, YES Reserv, YES First Preferred and YES Elite credit cards.
HSBC Reward Point Policy Changes
HSBC credit card holders will no longer earn reward points on several categories from July 1.
The revised policy removes reward points on government payments, insurance premiums, wallet loads, fuel purchases, tax payments and utility bill payments, meaning frequent users in these categories could earn fewer rewards than before.
