New Delhi, November 1: German Chancellor Angela Merkel who is on a two-day visit to India, remained seated while national anthems of India and Germany were played on Friday. As per the permission taken by the German authorities, Merkel was allowed to sit during a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. The 65-year-old was exempted from the official protocol due to health issue being faced by her. Reportedly, certain provisions of the order related to the National Anthem of India were invoked to allow Merkel to be seated when the national anthem is played. Earlier this year in June, Merkel suffered a new trembling spell for the third time in less than a month. She began shaking involuntarily as national anthems were being played at the reception of Finnish Prime Minister Antti Rinne.
Merkel in her visit to India will hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on further expanding overall bilateral ties.
