Mumbai, January 23:  A Mumbai-based artist on Wednesday created a portrait of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray using 33,000 rudraksha beads to mark the 93rd birth anniversary of the courageous leader. The portrait has been up in front of the Shiv Sena Bhavan in Mumbai's Dadar area. Chetan Raut, the creative artist, who made the portrait, said Balasaheb Thackeray had a special relationship with rudraksha, so he thought he will make this portrait using rudraksha.  "It is an 8 x 8 feet portrait and is made up of 33,000 rudrakshas, I tried to make a world record," artist Chetan Raut told ANI. A close look at the pictures shows that Rudraksha beads in different shades have been used to give a 3-D effect to the portrait. Thackeray, a renowned orator, cartoonist and politician was termed as 'Hindu Hridaysamrat' by his followers. Thackeray breathed his last on 17th November, 2012 in Mumbai.

On the occasion of its late Shiv Sena Chief's birthday, a grand event has been organised at the city mayor’s bungalow which will be attended by several dignitaries. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar are believed to be among the guests at the event today.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra state Cabinet has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the construction of a memorial for Thackeray. On Wednesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis handed over Mayor’s bungalow documents to Bal Thackeray Memorial Trust headed by Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray for Bal Thackeray Memorial.
