In a chilling case that has stunned the city, a 27-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly burning her boyfriend alive after luring him into a fatal "role-play" trap. The incident, which occurred in the Byadarahalli area of northwest Bengaluru, involved the suspect blindfolding and restraining the victim before setting him ablaze and filming his final moments.
The accused, identified as Prema, and the victim, Kiran (27), both worked at a mobile service provider in Rajajinagar and had been in a relationship for two years. According to police, the killing was triggered by resentment after Kiran reportedly rejected Prema's marriage proposal. On the day of the incident, Prema invited Kiran to her Anjananagar home under the guise of a "romantic surprise," where she convinced him to be tied up and blindfolded as part of an act. Once Kiran was defenseless, Prema allegedly doused him with an inflammable liquid, believed to be petrol or kerosene, and set him on fire. Despite his screams, which alerted neighbors and eventually the fire services, Kiran died on the spot. Investigators initially treated the case as a suspected suicide based on Prema’s claims. However, inconsistencies in her story and the discovery of a video on her mobile phone-allegedly showing the victim’s final moments-led to her arrest. Police also found evidence that the inflammable liquid had been purchased in advance, pointing to a premeditated plot. Prema remains in custody while the investigation continues.
