Bengaluru, May 9:  After bracing the water crisis for days, Bengaluru is now grappling with a beer shortage as the city's rising temperatures have led to a spike in demand. Recent reports indicate that this surge is the primary cause of the shortfall. The scarcity has prompted concerns that liquor prices may climb, impacting consumers financially.

"This year's supply and consumption rates have exceeded expectations, catching them unprepared for the surge," a spokesperson from a prominent brewery in Marathahalli told The New Indian Express. The continuous rise in beer sales has outpaced the supply, creating a gap that the city is struggling to fill. To manage the situation, measures are being taken to suspend promotional weekend offers at beer shops throughout Bengaluru. Beer Shortage in Hyderabad: Locals Disappointed as Their Favourite Beverage Disappears From Liquor Stores; Wine Shop Owners Display 'No Beer' Boards.

Bengaluru Beer Shortage

According to a report, around 30,000 litres of beer have already been sold this year, compared to sales of around 9,000 litres last year. This year’s supply and consumption of beer have exceeded the expectations of manufacturers, who attributed it to suboptimal fruit season, long weekends, and the ongoing IPL T20 tournament—factors that create an ideal situation for beer consumption.

Brewery owners, known for their 'buy 2 get 1 free' deals, have expressed their intention to halt such promotions to mitigate the crisis. Hyderabad is also reportedly facing a similar beer crisis. This summer, the apparent dip in beer availability is attributed to rising temperatures, election model code, and alleged unavailability of water as per the demand. “Usually, the demand for beer significantly increases during summer. This year too, the demand is almost double not only in Hyderabad but across Telangana. However, there is no adequate supply in the shops,” said D Venkateshwar, a businessman from the city.
