Bengaluru Woman Abducted, S*xually Assaulted and Filmed Naked, Held for 4 Days Over Unpaid Loan

Police in Bengaluru have registered a case against four individuals for allegedly kidnapping, confining, and assaulting a 30-year-old woman over unpaid money lenders' dues. The accused also allegedly filmed the victim in a semi-naked state and threatened to leak the video online to extort ₹11 lakh.

The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint at the Chandra Layout Police Station, leading to the registration of an FIR on August 31 under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66(E) of the Information Technology Act. According to the police, the complainant had borrowed ₹50,000 from one of the accused, Nazath Begam, on weekly installments and ₹1 lakh from another accused, Reshma Banu, on monthly interest around two years ago. Due to financial distress, the victim had failed to pay the installments over recent weeks.

On August 27, Nazath allegedly invited the woman to her Metro Layout residence under the pretext of offering work and financial assistance. When the victim arrived with her minor son around 5:30 PM, Reshma Banu, her husband Suhel, and two associates forced their way in, locked the doors, and assaulted her. The group demanded ₹11 lakh—citing accumulated interest—and damaged her phone after threatening her with a knife.

Later that evening, the victim and her child were transported in an auto-rickshaw to a house in Kumbalagodu owned by Reshma. The woman reported being confined in a room for four days, beaten with a stick, and verbally abused. On August 29, the perpetrators allegedly forced her to undress while filming her on a mobile phone, threatening to circulate the recording if the money was not paid. The complainant also alleged that Suhel threatened to force her into sex work to recover the loan amount. The woman was rescued on the afternoon of August 31 when police officers acting on a tip-off arrived at the Kumbalagodu location while one of the accused opened the door. The police have named Nazath Begam, Reshma Banu, Suhel, and an individual named Saif as primary accused in the FIR. Investigation into the matter is currently underway.
