Hundreds of student protesters demanding the cancellation of the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination broke through police barricades in Patna on Tuesday while marching toward Raj Bhavan. The demonstration began at Gandhi Maidan and attempted to advance into restricted administrative zones despite a heavy security deployment aimed at halting their progress. Police officials at the site noted that talks with student representatives were progressing constructively. The agitation stems from ongoing concerns regarding alleged paper leaks and procedural irregularities in the 70th BPSC competitive examination. In addition to calling for the cancellation of the exam, the demonstrators raised demands concerning other state recruitment processes, including the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0, Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) exams, and Sub-Inspector recruitments.

Protesters are demanding that the TRE 4.0 be conducted as a single-stage examination with the abolition of negative marking, rather than being split into two phases across the state. Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav penned a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, urging the state government to engage in constructive dialogue rather than ignoring the candidates. In his appeal, Yadav called for a single-exam format for TRE 4.0, complete transparency across all recruitment tests, an end to alleged evaluation disparities for Hindi-medium candidates, and a high-level independent probe into past examination malpractices.
