Dating App Trap, Fake FIRs and Crores in Demands: How Aditya Gupta Allegedly Targeted Wealthy Men in Nagpur

The Nagpur Police have busted an alleged s*xtortion syndicate operating from Maharashtra that targeted wealthy men through dating applications, secretly recorded intimate video calls and allegedly used false harassment complaints to extort crores of rupees. The alleged mastermind, 35-year-old Aditya Gupta, was arrested on Wednesday after investigators uncovered an attempted INR 3 crore extortion involving a man identified as Irfan.

According to the police, Gupta recruited financially vulnerable young women by promising them payments of INR 4 lakh to INR 5 lakh. The women were allegedly instructed to create profiles on dating applications, including Mika, and establish contact with wealthy men. They would then engage the targets in intimate video calls and secretly record the conversations.

The recorded footage was allegedly used to blackmail the men and pressure them into paying large sums of money to settle cases.

How Dating App S*xtortion Racket Operated

According to investigators, Gupta allegedly posed as an influential legal adviser and social activist who helped women facing harassment. He would approach police with the recorded footage and push for the registration of FIRs alleging sexual harassment and rape against the targeted men.

The alleged racket came under the police scanner when Gupta attempted to extort INR 3 crore from his latest target. Investigators grew suspicious of his unusually active involvement in such cases and decided to examine his role.

How Nagpur Police Busted The Syndicate

The police initially pretended to cooperate with Gupta while investigating the suspected blackmail operation. They subsequently contacted Irfan, who had been named in one of the cases, and brought him to Nagpur.

After taking Irfan into confidence, investigators uncovered the alleged extortion plot. Police arrested Gupta and seized his mobile phone, which reportedly contained more than 400 explicit videos of women.

Two cases are currently registered against Gupta in Nagpur, while police are gathering details of cases allegedly linked to him in other metropolitan cities.

Who Is Aditya Gupta?

Gupta, who originally hails from Agra, was living in Pune when he was arrested. According to the police, he left his family around five years ago and subsequently moved to Maharashtra, where he allegedly established the criminal network.

Investigators said he led a lavish lifestyle, reportedly driving luxury cars and staying in five-star hotels. He allegedly used a morphed photograph featuring senior political leaders as his WhatsApp profile picture to project an image of influence and connections. He had also faced a theft case filed by his own brother in Agra.

Nagpur Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane said the investigation was underway to establish the full extent of the alleged racket and identify those involved.

Police are now examining the seized videos and other evidence to determine how many people were targeted and whether additional members of the syndicate remain at large.
