The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced enhanced security checks across all Metro stations ahead of Independence Day 2026, advising passengers to expect longer queues and plan their journeys in advance. The intensified checks by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be in place from August 9 to August 16, 2026, with peak-hour commuters likely to face additional delays.
The advisory comes as security arrangements are being strengthened across the national capital ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. DMRC has urged passengers to cooperate with security personnel and allow extra travel time during the week-long period. Enhanced Security Checks From August 9
In a statement on X, the DMRC said: “In view of the enhanced security arrangements ahead of Independence Day on 15th August 2026, the security checks for passengers will be further intensified by CISF across the Metro stations starting from 9th August 2026 (Sunday). This might result in long queues at some Metro stations especially during peak hours till 16th August 2026 (Sunday). Therefore, passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and allow for some additional time for their commute during these days. Passengers are requested to cooperate with the security personnel during security checks.”

Commuters Asked to Plan Ahead
According to DMRC, the additional security screening is expected to increase waiting times at several Metro stations, particularly during morning and evening rush hours. Passengers have been advised to arrive earlier than usual to avoid delays and cooperate with CISF personnel during the security checks.
The security advisory comes as DMRC continues work on several infrastructure projects across the National Capital Region.
Recently, the corporation installed a 58-metre-long steel span across NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway near Noida Electronic City Metro station as part of a reversal facility that will allow Blue Line trains to reverse more efficiently after completing their trips.
DMRC has also begun construction on the 12.377-km Inderlok-Indraprastha Corridor, a fully underground extension of the Magenta Line under Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro expansion project. The corridor, approved by the Union Cabinet in March 2024 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi the same month, is expected to be completed by December 2030.
