Dibisa Mahanta, daughter of Assam Revenue Minister and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Keshab Mahanta, has triggered a political controversy after videos purportedly showed her raising an abusive slogan against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a student protest in Guwahati.

The protest, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Chachal on July 23, demanded education reforms and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.

Videos circulating on social media show Dibisa Mahanta participating alongside student activists, holding placards and chanting slogans. During the protest, she was allegedly heard chanting, "Neem Ka Patta Kadwa Hai, Modi Sala Bha*wa Hai." The slogan, directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, contains an abusive Hindi slur and has drawn sharp criticism on social media for its derogatory language.

The videos quickly went viral, sparking widespread political debate in Assam. Keshab Mahanta is among the senior-most leaders of the AGP and has served as a minister in the BJP-led Assam government since 2016. His daughter's participation in the protest has therefore attracted significant political attention.

Following the controversy, Dibisa Mahanta's social media account appeared to have been deactivated or taken down. The protest concluded peacefully, with students demanding greater transparency in the examination system, accountability over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government respected the democratic right of students to protest while urging people to also focus on the state's flood situation.
