Fly Found in Passenger’s Meal on Tejas Express, IRCTC Fines Caterer INR 1 Lakh

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has imposed a penalty of INR 1 lakh on a catering company and issued a show-cause notice over the possible cancellation of its licence after a passenger reported finding a fly in a meal served onboard the Ahmedabad–Mumbai Tejas Rajdhani Express.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when the passenger, who had ordered a combo lunch, allegedly found a fly in the vegetarian biryani and also complained about the quality of the food.
IRCTC Takes Action Against Catering Firm
According to IRCTC, the meals were supplied by Araha Hospitality Pvt Ltd from its licensed base kitchen in Surat.
Officials said the train captain and onboard catering manager responded immediately after receiving the complaint. The staff apologised to the passenger and offered a replacement meal, but the passenger declined the offer.
Following the incident, IRCTC imposed a fine of INR 1 lakh on the catering firm and issued a show-cause notice asking why its licence should not be cancelled.
Kitchen Inspected, Firm Warned
IRCTC said the base kitchen had been inspected on June 15 and underwent scheduled deep cleaning on June 18. Focus on Food Safety
IRCTC said the catering company has been directed to strengthen quality control, hygiene standards and packaging practices at every stage of food preparation. The corporation emphasised that strict adherence to food safety norms is essential to prevent similar incidents and ensure passengers receive safe and hygienic meals during their journey.
