Gujarat Gold Robbery Solved Within Hours as Police Arrest 4, Recover 2.90 Kg Gold Worth INR 4 Crore

Ahmedabad, October 4: Gujarat Police have arrested four people and recovered 2.90 kg of gold worth around ₹4 crore after a robbery at a railway station in Kheda district. The stolen gold was recovered within hours following a joint operation by Ahmedabad Rural Police and Railway Police, officials said.

Ahmedabad, October 4: Gujarat Police have arrested four people and recovered 2.90 kg of gold worth around ₹4 crore after a robbery at a railway station in Kheda district. The stolen gold was recovered within hours following a joint operation by Ahmedabad Rural Police and Railway Police, officials said. The robbery took place at around 5 pm on Saturday when the accused allegedly snatched gold from an employee of a jeweller who had arrived from Kolkata. The victim chased the suspects and managed to photograph their vehicle, which helped police begin tracking their escape.

CCTV Footage Helps Police Track Suspects

The Kheda Government Railway Police examined CCTV footage and alerted the state control room about the suspected vehicle and its occupants. The information was subsequently passed to Ahmedabad Rural Police at around 7.30 pm. Police mapped the suspected escape route using the vehicle's registration details and mobile phone Subscriber Detail Record data. The investigation indicated that the suspects were heading towards the Banaskantha side. The police also found that an unnumbered vehicle was following the main getaway car. Based on the suspected route towards Sachana and Viramgam, teams from the Local Crime Branch and Viramgam Town Police set up roadblocks.

Police Intercept Getaway Cars Near Viramgam

Police intercepted the second vehicle before it could reach Viramgam and arrested one suspect. During questioning, the suspect revealed that three accomplices had gone ahead in another car carrying the stolen gold. Police then traced the second vehicle and surrounded it near Viramgam. When officers attempted to stop the suspects, they allegedly rammed their car into the vehicle of police inspector S A Gadhvi and tried to flee.

Gadhvi reportedly grabbed the door of the moving vehicle and was dragged for nearly 500 metres before managing to gain control of the car and apply the emergency handbrake. Other police personnel then apprehended the suspects. Another accused attempted to escape through nearby fields but was later caught after police cordoned off the area. Gold Hidden Inside Car Seat Cover

Police recovered the stolen 2.90 kg of gold, valued at approximately ₹4 crore, concealed inside the car's seat cover. Two vehicles allegedly used in the robbery were also seized. With the recovery of the entire stolen property and the arrest of all four accused, police have said the robbery was solved within a few hours. Further investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the crime and determine whether others were involved.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi congratulated the Ahmedabad Rural Police and Railway Police teams for the operation and recovery of the stolen gold.
