IMD Forecasts More Rain

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated spells of very heavy rain. The weather department has also warned of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds as monsoon activity strengthens over the Konkan region.

Officials said heavy rainfall coinciding with high tide could slow the drainage of rainwater into the sea, increasing the risk of water accumulation in low-lying areas.

The BMC said disaster management teams, pumping stations and emergency personnel have been placed on standby to deal with any flooding or infrastructure-related emergencies.
