The incident took place around 3 p.m. at the 2 BHK Police Housing Society near Chanchalguda X Roads, according to Charminar Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Khare. Police said residents had allegedly thrown the material downward while a Ganesh immersion procession and food distribution programme were underway nearby. Police identified those taken into custody as Mohammad Imran Qureshi, Arshiya Begum and Sameena, all residents of the housing society. Police reached the location after receiving information about the incident and began an inquiry. Reports differed slightly in their description of the material. Police and IANS referred to it as non-vegetarian material, while other reports said a packet containing bones and food waste was found near the Annadanam distribution area. The exact nature and circumstances of the material are part of the investigation.
The Ganesh pandal organising committee submitted a complaint to police. DCP Khare said stringent legal provisions would be invoked against those found responsible. The incident was followed by a protest at Chanchalguda Cross Roads, where BJP leaders and Hindu organisations demanded action against those allegedly responsible. Police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Khare said the situation was peaceful after police addressed the concerns and appealed to people not to believe or circulate unverified information on social media. Police also warned that action would be taken against those attempting to spread rumours or create tension. Additional police and Rapid Action Force personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations as a precautionary measure. Police have also conducted flag marches in communally sensitive areas. Hyderabad's Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations began on September 14 and are scheduled to conclude with the major immersion procession on September 25. Thousands of idols are expected to be immersed in Hussain Sagar Lake, with extensive security arrangements planned across the city. The investigation into Sunday's incident is continuing, with police saying further legal action will depend on the evidence collected.
