Hyderabad: Private Security Guard Arrested for Molesting Woman Techie Getting Out of Cab

A 26-year-old software engineer was allegedly molested by a private security guard in Hyderabad, police said on Wednesday, September 23. The incident took place on Tuesday when the woman was getting out of a vehicle near her residence. In her complaint, she alleged that the accused, a private security guard at a nearby hostel, was standing beside the cab when he grabbed and kissed her.

Based on her complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and s*xual harassment, TOI reported. Accused Denies Allegations, Claims Woman Lost Balance

The security guard, however, denied the allegations during police questioning. He claimed that he had held the woman only after she lost her balance and was about to fall on the road.

Police officers stated that statements of witnesses and surrounding footage are being examined to verify the claims made by both sides. String of Harassment Cases in Public Spaces

The incident comes amid reports of similar cases of alleged harassment of women and girls in public places across states.

In Bihar earlier this week, a girl was allegedly molested in public while she was on her way to school. According to a police statement, two motorcycle-borne men allegedly attempted to snatch the girl’s dupatta. The girl raised an alarm, following which passersby tried to catch the accused. However, the two men allegedly fled the spot on their motorcycle.

A case was subsequently registered at Jamalpur police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the BNS. Police said both accused were tracked down “within five hours of the incident".

Encounter in Jamui Coaching Centre Case

In another incident in Bihar, a teenage girl and a boy, who were reportedly studying at the same coaching centre, were allegedly harassed by a group on a road in Jamui on September 19. Videos purportedly showing the girl being molested later surfaced on social media, triggering widespread outrage.

Bihar Police said two key accused were arrested following an encounter on Tuesday, in which both allegedly sustained injuries. With their arrest, the total number of people held in connection with the incident rose to five, including three minors.
