India Summons Pakistan Envoy, Rejects Allegations Over Ferozepur Border Incident
India summoned the Pakistan Chargé d'Affaires to protest cross-border infiltration and reject allegations regarding a border incident in Punjab's Ferozepur sector where three intruders were engaged. 'This incident highlights a clear pattern of repeated cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan, the MEA said.
India strongly rejected Pakistan's "baseless and motivated allegations" regarding a security incident along the International Border in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector, summoning the Chargé d'Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission to lodge a formal protest. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned Pakistani diplomat Saad Ahmad Warraich on Saturday to register New Delhi's strong objections against the continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration.
The Ferozepur Border Incident
The diplomatic demarche followed an encounter on October 2 along the International Border in the Ferozepur sector. According to the MEA, three individuals infiltrated Indian territory and continued advancing toward the border fence despite multiple warnings from the Border Security Force (BSF) to turn back. The Ministry stated that security personnel were compelled to engage the intruders because they posed an imminent security threat. "This incident highlights a clear pattern of repeated cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan," the MEA said in an official statement.
"The Government of Pakistan was urged to investigate these cross-border infiltration, drug smuggling activities and the complicity of Pakistan Border Guarding forces therein, and to take appropriate remedial measures," the statement added. Furthermore, Islamabad was pressed to respect the sanctity of the International Border, strictly observe existing bilateral arrangements, and ensure that its border forces maintain effective control to prevent unauthorised crossings.
Broader Diplomatic Context
The latest diplomatic friction follows sharp exchanges at international forums regarding regional security. India has previously criticised Pakistan's military leadership for using cross-border terrorism as a diversion from domestic political instability. Addressing the United Nations, Indian diplomatic representatives criticised Islamabad's governance structures and maintained that cross-border terrorism has been systematically sponsored and financed to destabilise the region for over three decades.
