Indian Psychic and Fortune Teller Gangadhar Babu Wanted by Toronto Police for USD 800,000 Scam

Toronto police have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for Gangadhar Babu, a man from India who allegedly posed as an Indian psychic, fortune teller, and spiritual healer and defrauded a victim of USD 800,000 before fleeing the country. Investigators announced the warrant on Friday, July 31, detailing a calculated financial scheme that played out over more than a year.

Exploiting Beliefs Through Elaborate Rituals

According to police, the offences took place between April 2024 and September 2025. Authorities stated that Babu used "elaborate rituals and frightening claims" to manipulate the victim. By exploiting the individual's belief in the supernatural, he allegedly convinced them that both they and their loved ones faced imminent death or severe harm unless they continuously provided funds for spiritual protection.

Charges and Ongoing Investigation Against Gangadhar Babu

Babu is currently wanted on multiple serious charges, which include:

• Fraud over USD 5,000
• Possession of proceeds obtained by crime over USD 5,000
• Laundering proceeds of crime

Investigators told CTV News Toronto that they believe Babu has already fled Canada and returned to India. The suspect is described as standing five-foot-six, with a slender build, dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a trimmed beard, and a noticeable gap between his front teeth. "The accused operated a business known as 'Indian Psychic and Spiritual Healer '," the Toronto police said in a press release. Believing there may be additional victims of this operation, police are urging anyone with information to contact them at 416-808-3200 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
