A 60-year-old businessman carrying Rs 40 lakh in cash was allegedly assaulted and robbed in broad daylight on the busy Agra Road in Kalyan on Tuesday, September 15. The incident took place amid heightened security arrangements for the ongoing Ganesh festival and was captured on CCTV, according to report.

The businessman, identified in local reports as Farooq Akhtar, was travelling on a motorcycle with an associate to deposit the cash at a bank when two motorcycles allegedly intercepted them. According to the reports, Akhtar and his associate were travelling from the Waldhuni area towards a bank on Agra Road when the incident occurred. The suspects allegedly approached from behind and struck their motorcycle, causing the two men to fall. The assailants then reportedly assaulted Akhtar and took away the bag containing Rs 40 lakh. CCTV Footage Being Examined

The robbery was reportedly captured by CCTV cameras installed outside nearby shops. Police are examining footage from the immediate area as well as other roads to identify and trace the suspects.

Reports said the motorcycles used by the suspects did not have visible number plates, according to the victim's account. The Bazaar Peth police have launched an investigation and formed teams to track down those involved.

Akhtar, who is reported to be a trader dealing in tobacco and pan masala products, was carrying the cash to deposit it in a bank. The robbery occurred a short distance from the bank, according to local reports. Incident During Ganesh Festival Security

The robbery has drawn attention because it occurred during Ganeshotsav, when authorities have increased police deployment and surveillance across Kalyan-Dombivli because of large crowds and increased movement.

Kalyan Police Zone 3 had announced the deployment of 1,066 police personnel and Home Guards during the festival. Authorities had also planned additional security and traffic arrangements around public celebrations and crowded areas. Police had conducted route marches in key areas of Kalyan ahead of the festival as part of security and crowd-management preparations.

The Bazaar Peth police have registered a case in connection with the robbery and are working to identify the accused using CCTV footage and other evidence. The exact number of people directly involved is being investigated, with reports indicating that multiple suspects were travelling on two motorcycles.
