Madhya Pradesh Tiger Attack: Farmer Injured After Big Cat Pounces Near Kanha National Park, 3rd Incident This Month
A young man, Santosh Meshram, was seriously injured after a tiger attacked him near his farm in Kareli village, close to Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha National Park. He suffered injuries to his head and both hands and is being treated at Baihar Hospital. Villagers used sticks and loud noises to force the tiger back into the forest. It was Balaghat’s third tiger attack this month.
A young man was seriously injured after a tiger attacked him near his farm in Kareli village, close to Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha National Park in Balaghat district, an official said Tuesday, August 18. The victim, Santosh Meshram, suffered injuries to his head and both hands and is undergoing treatment at Baihar Hospital.
Park Additional Director Sunil Pandre told PTI that Meshram had gone to his farm near the forest when the tiger suddenly attacked him. A group of villagers later rushed towards the animal with sticks and made loud noises, forcing it to retreat into the forest. Tiger Attack Leaves Farmer Injured
Officials said Meshram was taken to Baihar Hospital following the attack and remains under medical supervision. Dr Kaushal Kumar of Baihar Hospital said Meshram's condition is stable, but he is being closely monitored because of the head injuries he sustained. Pandre said the tiger's movements were being closely monitored following the incident.
The attack took place near the forest, where villagers were alerted after the tiger confronted Meshram. A group of residents carrying sticks moved towards the animal and made loud noises. The response forced the tiger to retreat into the forest. Forest authorities are continuing to monitor the animal's movements in the area. Third Tiger Attack In Balaghat This Month
The incident is the third reported tiger attack in Balaghat district this month, highlighting continuing concerns in villages located close to forest areas. On August 2, a tiger attacked Sugnibai while she was sleeping inside her home in Parrapur Baigatola village. She was killed in the attack.
On August 10, local resident Devkaram Baghmare was killed in a tiger attack in the Khairlanji forest range. The latest incident has renewed attention on human-wildlife encounters in settlements bordering the Kanha landscape.
