The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. The incident was among dozens of tree-fall complaints reported across Mumbai as strong winds and persistent rainfall lashed the city.
Waterlogging Affects Daily Life
Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, including Andheri, Sion, Kurla, Dadar, Kings Circle and parts of the western suburbs. Commuters faced slow-moving traffic as several roads remained inundated. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) deployed emergency teams to clear waterlogged stretches and remove fallen trees, while officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Local Train and Flight Services Impacted
Mumbai's suburban railway network, the city's lifeline, witnessed delays on multiple routes due to water accumulation on tracks and poor visibility. Road traffic was also affected as several vehicles broke down on flooded roads, adding to congestion.
Some flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport experienced delays and diversions because of adverse weather conditions.
IMD Issues Weather Alert
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall with isolated intense spells. The weather agency has also cautioned about gusty winds and the possibility of further waterlogging in vulnerable areas. Authorities have advised citizens to remain alert, follow official weather updates and avoid venturing into flooded areas unless necessary.
Over 300 mm Rain Recorded in Two Days
Mumbai has recorded more than 300 mm of rainfall in the first two days of July, marking one of the wettest starts to the month in recent years. Several weather stations, including Santacruz, registered exceptionally heavy rainfall, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing monsoon spell.
Civic agencies remain on high alert as forecasts indicate that heavy rain is likely to continue, with emergency response teams positioned across the city to deal with any rain-related incidents.
