According to the police, Nathulal had been frequently ill and suspected Lakshmi of practising black magic on him. He allegedly believed that the black magic was responsible for his health problems and the death of his son, who died three years ago. The accusations had reportedly led to frequent quarrels between the two.

After the alleged attack, Nathulal jumped into a well located behind the house. Police said they received a call about an elderly man falling into the well and reached the spot. With the help of the fire brigade, he was rescued and taken to the Medical Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Yunus Sheikh, Police Inspector at Yashodhara Nagar police station, said Nathulal frequently quarrelled with his daughter-in-law over his allegations that she was practising black magic and had caused his son's death. Police said Lakshmi lived in a separate room in the house with her two children. Her husband had died three years ago. Nathulal also reportedly had domestic disputes with his wife, and the two lived in separate rooms of the house.
The Yashodhara Nagar police have conducted an inquest and sent Lakshmi's body for a post-mortem examination. A murder case has been registered, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
