The expansion introduces a broad spectrum of multimodal transport options, incorporating buses, app-based cabs, prepaid autos, car rentals, and complimentary airport shuttles to ensure affordable and seamless connectivity across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), reports Adani. Navi Mumbai International Airport: NMIA To Power 2 Lakh Jobs, Place Mumbai Among Global Aviation Hubs Like London, New York and Tokyo.

Bus Services and Regional Connectivity

To facilitate cost-effective regional transit, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will roll out its e-Shivai electric bus services starting October 7, 2026.

  • Fare Structure: Fares from NMIA are set at INR 450 to Pune, INR 210 to Borivali, and INR 170 to Dadar East.
  • Concessions: Children below 12 years of age and women travelling with a National Common Mobility Card will qualify for a 50 per cent fare discount.
  • Routes & Frequencies: MSRTC’s first-phase electric buses will connect NMIA to Dadar (via Sion and Atal Setu), Borivali (via CSMIA Terminal 1, Bandra, and Atal Setu), and Pune with morning and afternoon services. Additional links to Thane and Nashik are slated for mid-November.

Complementing MSRTC, Chalo Bus is deploying 21 daily services connecting NMIA to Marol (Andheri East), Bandra, Dadar, and the World Trade Centre in Colaba. Meanwhile, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) operates seven dedicated airport routes (A1 to A7) linking Terminal 1 to localised transit nodes like Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar, and the Airport Project Office.

Taxis, Autorickshaws, and Fleet Scaled-Up

On the cab and last-mile connectivity front, passengers will have access to multiple ride-hailing options. Uber Go, Uber Premier, and Uber Auto will provide short- and medium-distance travel via designated pickup zones. Traditional and specialised fleets are also stepping up operations:

  • Bharat Taxi will commence operations with a dedicated fleet of up to 40 vehicles starting 10 October.
  • Prepaid taxis, prepaid autorickshaws, and car rental services are being integrated into the terminal's transport bays.

In total, the ground transport capacity is scaling up to 4,594 vehicles and services, comprising 3,787 app-based taxis, 184 car rentals, 171 autorickshaws, and 547 buses. Mumbai Airport Terminal 1B Redevelopment Set for January 2027 Over Safety Concerns; Capacity To Rise by 33%.

Inter-Airport Shuttles and Infrastructure Readiness

To streamline passenger transfers between Mumbai’s primary aviation hubs, a complimentary hourly inter-airport shuttle service will operate between NMIA and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Operated by Cityflo, Aarya, and Chalo, the service guarantees direct connectivity. To support the influx of travellers, NMIA is deploying enhanced mobility signage, intuitive wayfinding systems, and dedicated passenger assistance zones for buses, shuttles, arrivals, departures, and private vehicles. The airport remains accessible via suburban railway stations (Panvel, Targhar, and Bamandongri), major arterial roads like Atal Setu and the Sion-Panvel Highway, the operational Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1, and future proposed transit projects. Additionally, collaboration with Adani TotalEnergies Gas (ATGL) is underway to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the facility.
