All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was released from the Narela Industrial Area police station on Sunday evening after being detained during a protest march towards Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. After her release, Bora said protesters were being treated as if they were not citizens and said, “We are not dogs, we are not cockroaches, we are not insects. We are citizens of this country.”
Bora said she was released around 8:13 pm and alleged that her phone and bag were still not with her. AISA said it was sending a team of lawyers to the police station to assist her. ‘Whereabouts Unknown’: AISA Claims Neha Bora Was Taken Away in Unmarked Vehicle Without Female Constable During Delhi Protest.
The detention took place as AISA activists and other protesters attempted to march towards Jantar Mantar from Andhra Bhawan Circle on Ashoka Road. Police had put up barricades to stop protesters from proceeding towards the designated protest site. Visuals circulated from the protest showed Bora attempting to climb a barricade before being stopped by police personnel.

AISA Alleges Detention in Unmarked Vehicle
AISA had alleged that Bora was taken away by Delhi Police in a private or unauthorised vehicle without an official number plate. The organisation also claimed that no woman police officer was present when she was taken away and said her whereabouts were initially unknown. A senior police officer rejected the allegations as baseless. Police also alleged that some protesters attacked personnel on duty and bit them during the confrontation.
After her release, Bora said citizens had the right to question those in power and to return to a designated protest site to register their claim over it. She also questioned the relationship between the Election Commission and the ruling establishment, according to her post-detention statement. Anti-CEC Protests Continue in Delhi
Sunday’s demonstration was the third consecutive day of protests demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The agitation has focused on alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission and concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protests have resulted in repeated detentions in Delhi. Around 150 people, including Bora, activist Yogendra Yadav and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, were detained during the previous day’s mobilisation, according to reports.
Separately, Aam Aadmi Party workers were detained while protesting at India Gate on Sunday. Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj and party MLA Sanjeev Jha were among those detained, with police putting the number of AAP workers detained at around 25. The latest developments come amid wider criticism and allegations concerning the handling of the protests. Three women journalists had earlier alleged sexual harassment by Delhi Police personnel while covering the October 3 demonstration. Delhi Police has transferred the complaints to its Crime Branch for investigation.
