Four Bodies Found in Maharajganj

Four bodies — those of three women and a man — were recovered from the Telphal area of Maharajganj district. Personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), who were carrying out surveillance and rescue operations along the river, reached the location by motorboat and retrieved the bodies. Three Bodies Recovered in Kushinagar

Three more bodies were found near Siswagopal village, close to the Chhitauni embankment of the Gandak river in Kushinagar district. Villagers spotted the bodies of two women and a man in the river on Thursday night and informed the police.

Sub-divisional magistrate Sarvesh Kumar Gaur, the Khadda circle officer, the local station house officer and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the area and recovered the bodies. Nepal Floods Raise River Flow

The recoveries come amid a severe flood situation in neighbouring Nepal. Heavy flooding there led to a significant increase in the flow of the Gandak river, which enters India after flowing through Nepal. The strong currents are believed to have carried the bodies downstream into Uttar Pradesh, although authorities are yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths or the identities of those recovered.

Identification Efforts Underway

Officials are working to identify all seven deceased persons. The recoveries in two districts have also prompted continued monitoring and rescue operations along stretches of the river. The incident highlights the cross-border impact of the ongoing flood situation in Nepal, with rising water levels and strong currents posing risks to communities along the Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh.
