Nearly six weeks after a 22-year-old woman was found shot dead inside a locked apartment, the Gurgaon police have arrested her husband and his alleged first wife. The suspects, who had fled to Nepal immediately after the crime, were tracked down and taken into custody following their recent return to India.

The victim, identified as Madhu, had married the prime accused, 25-year-old Ankit, in February. Investigators reveal that the motive stems from Ankit’s undisclosed three-year relationship and marriage with 38-year-old Rajni Devi. According to the police, the duo allegedly carried out a pre-planned conspiracy to eliminate Madhu so they could remain together. The investigation began on May 22 when Madhu’s mother filed a missing person report, noting that Ankit had evaded questions and abruptly left when confronted about her daughter's whereabouts. Later that same day, locals in IMT Manesar complained of a foul odor emanating from a locked room on Kasan Khoh Road. Upon breaking open the door, police discovered Madhu’s highly decomposed body with a single gunshot wound to her head.

According to police officials, Ankit had brought Madhu to the rented accommodation—which belonged to Rajni—on May 21, where the fatal shooting took place. Authorities also established that Ankit had illegally procured the murder weapon from Uttar Pradesh nearly two months prior to the incident, indicating significant premeditation. Following the murder, the accused duo fled across the border to Nepal via Haridwar to evade law enforcement. They were successfully monitored and intercepted by the police on June 30 shortly after crossing back into India. Both suspects have been remanded to police custody for five days as investigators work to recover the firearm and gather further forensic evidence.
